Ushahidi workshop in Damascus - Sunday February 20
Submitted by anas on Tue, 02/15/2011 - 15:29The Syria Trust for Development "I Can, We Can" project, in collaboration with IDRC, is organizing a practical workshop on the open source crowdsourced mapping platform "Ushahidi" in Damascus on Sunday 20 February 2011.
Join us as we discuss the impact of Ushahidi on development, and learn first-hand from Ushahidi's experts how to implement, modify and maintain Ushahidi. This will be a full day workshop, and will start at 9:00 AM.
[I Can, We Can] Solar Power Project in Rasm Al Sawan Goes Live
Submitted by anas on Tue, 12/28/2010 - 15:25The solar power generation project for the village school at Rasm Al Sawan is currently operating. The project provides electricity to operate two PCs and one LCD screen in the school, as well as lighting for the classrooms and the teachers' room.
The project idea was conceived, developed and implemented by the beneficiaries of the "I Can, We Can" project in the city of Homs, Syria.

[I Can, We Can] Youth Providing Renewable Energy to Rural Schools
Submitted by anas on Fri, 10/22/2010 - 10:37Participants in the "I Can, We Can" are embarking on a project to design, raise funds for, build and implement renewable energy resources for schools in deprived rural communities in Syria. The project team has successfully raised the required funds to provide solar power electricity to a school in a village of 300 residents. The school teaches 30 students, and has been operating without electricity since its establishment. Upon project completion, a computer with an LCD screen will be installed in the school.
The project team is also cooperating with several other stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the project, including the Syrian Scientific Society, the Department of Education and the Public Company for Electricity.

"I Can, We Can" Youth as Teachers
Submitted by anas on Sat, 09/04/2010 - 06:09The young beneficiaries of the "I Can, We Can" project embarked on an initiatives to teach technology and basic computer skills to their families and neighbors in the local community. Preparations are currently being performed for the initiatives, in which participants will prepare training materials, conduct outreach activities to recruit trainees, and document and evaluate the work. The following photos were taken at the preparation workshop held by the beneficiaries and the project team in Lattakia on August 3, 2010.

[I Can, We Can] Launches the Syrian Volunteers project

The participating youth in the "I Can, We Can" project have developed an online platform for volunteers in both Lattakia and Homs. The idea have come when the research team found in focus group results that there is a volunteering issue in the society, so the project participants tried to find a solution to address this issue using ICT.

The website contains awareness information about safe behavior on the Internet, the training materials developed by the project team, and updated about the training activities conducted by the project team.

[I Can, We Can] A Day with Massar in Lattakia
Submitted by anas on Fri, 12/18/2009 - 13:33An open day named (A Day with Massar) was held in Lattakia on the 24th Oct 2009 for Massar beneficiaries, their parents and a group of 30 volunteers to conclude the first round of implementation.
Massar beneficiaries have presented the work that have been held in the first round to their parents.
